Week one

Firstly, we got in our groups, my group being Moe and Tony. We then opened up PowerPoint. Finalised our game, we will base our trailer on. L.A Noir. On our PowerPoint presentation we created slides for; Scenes, settings, actors, job roles, and shots.

Furthermore, we ended up coming up with 7 scenes we will use, finalized job roles, actors, settings and 4 shots that we will use.

The settings we came up with were a tunnel and an office. We then asked around to see if there would be an office available inside the college and concluded on a music room. For the tunnel, we found an abandoned tunnel that we will meet up to film in.

Moe: Hitman

Tony: Interrogator

Mobster: Me

Pedestrian: Me

The scene ideas we came up with consisted of:

Week 2

This was our presentation week where we had to in our groups and present our ideas. Our group was to present 1 hour into a lesson, so we had time to addto our Presentation. We added images of settings and examples of shots we were potentially going to use. We also spent some more time to look at settings.

Week 3

This week we went onto creating storyboards. As we were storyboarding we came up with some more shots we could use too, as some of our feedback from our presentation was that we might need to consider having more shots as the shots we already had might not take up the minute and 30 seconds we needed. We also discussed some of the props and clothes we would need when filming. A small table lamp, A strong torch be used as a prop. The torch will be used for lighting in the tunnel.

week 4 we came up with many more shot ideas we could use in the tunnel and the interrogation scene. The interrogation scene having more dialog between the characters and a few more angles of them looking at each other. Followed up by a shot of the interrogator pulling up a box with pliers.  The tunnel scene shots were adjusted quite a bit now being that there is a trade between the hitman and the victim, followed up by Hitman making the victim unconscious and taking the item off the victim.

Week 5 and 6. When going into editing I first made a rough edit, putting together what my brief idea of the trailer is, I  then played around with the transitions and the effects on premiere pro to compose a more effective dramatic trailer, I made 2 more rough edits demonstrating different pathways I can edit the trailer with, one is simple with just the saturation lowered to make it looks dark the other having colours dramatically change with the music and audio. The edit with the colors changing to the music and scenes seemed to work a lot better, after asking people around.

to get the colours and darkness to how it is on the final trailer i went to the search bar and typed in ‘fast colour corrector this bang up a variety of options to adjust colour brightness and  darkness Screen Shot 2018-03-08 at 10.01.43.png for the interrogation scenes I would adjust the colour the blue, for the other scenes I would adjust the colour to red, I then went down to saturation

and changed it from 100 to 25.

The trailer consists of just two settings, an interrogation scene and a

A big portion of my trailer had scenes inspired by movies and games I referenced in my blog for example ” L.A NOIRE”.

While doing my research I did not run into many problems for the most of it.

Where did you look for research? Was it helpful? To find most of my research which were references mostly I used youtube for the other partI found a website that leads me to other websites.

Some Designers/ photographers and content creators on youtube influenced my work.Mostly photography that I found on ‘Pinterest’ While I was creating the mood boards I ran into many different types of Noire photography which had some differences in color something I took into consideration was a dark red themed noire filter for the film. However, the Photographers which influenced some of my work were anonymous.

Planning and Time Management:

For time and management, some of the tasks that I planned to do took much longer than I expected. For example, my filming was planned to be finished in a week of college around 5 hours of recording however, this went over my plan and went into around a week of filming, as some new scenes and ideas were created during filming.

My planning to organize all my tasks turned out to be quite effective as most of them were completed by the date and time I wanted them done by.

Developing and Modifying Work

Throughout this project, I did end up making some adjustments to the trailer the reason for that being was my filming was taking too long and I had to change the shots up a bit as organizing everyone to record and the film was difficult because of some not listening and messing around at times. For examples, scenes were simplified after the dilemma within the story happened after the first appearance of The main actor’s imaginary person was shown

I considered many different ideas, after coming up with a few ideas I went around and asked a few colleagues which ideas they liked and anything they can add. To a point, my idea felt developed enough for people to approve of the idea.   However, after looking at the final outcome it seemed to me as the idea might not have been developed enough

When researching I experimented with colors and themes for the trailer and presenting the experiments on mood boards, I also spent a lot of my free time researching different sorts of effects I was potentially going to use within my edit of the trailer, the effects ranged from basic filters to distortion effects. I ended up testing some of these effects in Premiere Pro and Audacity which I presented in a video.

Materials, Techniques, and Processes
Some techniques I used were Filming techniques. For example different types of shots like extreme close up shots mid shots and many different types of shots i did this to not make the film boring as if the shot remains the same throughout the film it would appear to be simple and it does not often present enough of what the viewer wants to see for example when my main actor encounters his imagination I present different views of and shots to show that he isn’t actually there. However, I did encounter difficulties of some of my techniques and processes due to possibly not having enough time, a big difficulty was setting up the lightning which I didn’t get to even do in most of the scenes. Some of the effects and processes impacted my final outcome because things like some of the sounds I made make the piece sound more intense.

The Final Outcome

I presented my work on a blog because it looks neat and is easy to find

Strengths and Weaknesses

A few things I did well for the project is taking actual shots followed up by making a pretty successful edit however something I would have improved if I could be developing the story a further. However, throughout the project, my work improved quite a bit as I added sounds and different effects.

If I were to do the project again something I would do differently is asking a few more people about the idea of my film to try and develop it further. Furthermore, I have also learned a few things from this project, for example, multiple editing techniques on premiere pro, in addition, to also learning how to use audacity, mainly the echo/ delay effect.
